About this sight

The Severin fortress is one of the most important fortifications in the defensive system of Wallachia. Specialists believe that the Severin fortress was built by the Ioannite Knights around 1250. In the past, the fortress had two bodies: an inner and an outer one, with the latter being surrounded by a ditch. Ruins of the walls, towers, acropolis and the chapel are still preserved today.
