About this sight

The cathedral was built in 1895, by architect Ion Mincu. It served as a parish church until 1925 and during 1925-1950 it was used as the episcopal church of the former Tomis Bishopric. In 1941, because of a Soviet bombardment, the altar, the iconostasis were partially destroyed. A miracle is said to have occurred during the bombardment: the image of Virgin Mary was not affected in any way. Moreover, it was found near the door, and the church was closed.
