About this sight

Capidava is located on the Danube shore, built during the reign of Trajan within the intention to reinforce the Roman border. In the 7th century, after the attacks of Avars and Slavs, the fortress is fully destroyed and abandoned. In the early Middle Ages the reinforcement of the Danube border becomes a priority task for the Byzantine emperors and the fortress is brought to life once again.
