The Gura Motrului fortified monastery was initially founded by St. Nicodim in the 14th century. A wood hermitage including a small church and some cells was located here, and he planted vine around the hermitage. The fortified monastery was built by Matei Basarab in 1643. The Gura Motrului Monastery has been a genuine cultural hive in the centuries passed. Nowadays, the Monastery holds a museum collection.
