The House was erected before 1894. Ana and Marinache Popescu, cereal merchants, had a single son, Leon. He wrote the first history of Romanian cinematography. The building was donated in 1927 to serve education and culture. The building was recently renovated with EU funding, and works were completed in 2011. The County Department for Culture and Heritage of Calarasi currently operates here.
