About this sight

Welcome to Kolyu Ficheto Bridge on Yantra River!
Kolyu Ficheto Bridge on Yantra River or also called Belenski Bridge is located in the northeastern part of the town of Byala, in Rousse municipality. It was built on the Yantra River in the period 1865-1867 by order of the Vali of the Danube vilayet Midhat Pasha. For his construction, the Polish engineer Lyudmil Rolla, who served under Midhat Pasha, asked for three million Groshes, and the Master Kolyu Ficheto, the most famous Renaissance master builder, undertook to build it for 700,000 Groshes, betting his honour and his life.
First, Master Kolyu Ficheto started to make a wax model to calculate the amount needed to build the bridge. This is the only construction site for which the master has made a model. In the construction of the bridge helped blacksmiths from Gabrovo, carpenters and stonemasons from Tryavna and Dryanovo and peasants from Byala.
The stone bridge at Byala is a remarkable work from the Renaissance era.
