Chiprovski Monastery “St. Ivan Rilski “is located at 7 km from the town of Chiprovtsi.
The monastery was founded in the Xth century and during the years of its existence it established as a literary and educational center. This holy abode also took part in the struggles for liberation of Ottoman rule. In 1688 the rebels from Chiprovtsi used it as a refuge.
The monastery has been demolished and plundered several times. The bones of the victims of the Chiprovtsi Uprising are kept in the ossuary tower, which is part of the monastery complex. The main church was built at the end of the XVIIIth and early XIXth centuries.
In the main temple of the holy place you can buy information materials and icons, and the monks will tell you the story of the monastery.
