About this sight

Welcome to Kaleto Archaeological Complex!
In the south-western end of the town of Mezdra, on a high rocky ridge overlooking the left bank of the Iskar River is preserved 70 centuries-old history, told today in the Kaleto (The Fortress) Archaeological Complex.
At this crossroad of civilizations, remains have been piled up from all of human history – from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. Numerous valuable finds testify that during the Stone-Bronze and Bronze Age the settlement was inhabited by master ceramics-makers, farmers and jewelers. Later, there were the Thracians, Romans and Byzantines. After the Slavs, in these lands come the Bulgarians from the times of Khan Asparuh. All these nations have left their mark on this ancient settlement.
The traces of this centuries-old story are still there, on the hill above the Iskar River, guarding the “Mezdra Stone Treasure”.
